Comedian Milton Jones is putting his talent for a one-liner into print - with divine results.
If you've never been able to see the funny side of Christianity, then the popular Mock The Week panelist's books are to help.
Called 10 Second Sermons and even more concise 10 second sermon's, both books are witty, thought-provoking collections of sayings about God, the Church and being a Christian.
A Christian himself, Milton is not afraid to have a laugh at churchgoers' expense.i.e, God's creation is like Him - inexplicably clever, outrageously excessive and a bit weird' part.
But the multi-award-winning comedian, well known for his television and radio appearances, has some serious and very perceptive messages about faith, mixed in with the mirth. i.e,
Sin is like a drop off a cliff. We all have a compulsion to look over the edge, but if you fall, it's worth remembering the pain of hitting the ground, and how long it can take to climb up again.
And:
Heaven is the successful conclusion of a life trying to find God.
Hell is the successful conclusion of a life trying to avoid God.
The Bible says: John Chp 4: About 6pm in Samaria Jesus sat down from His journey at Jacob's Well. Jesus said to a Samaritan woman there,"Will you give me a drink?" {His disciples had gone into town to buy food} the woman said "How can you ask me for a drink?" (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans)
Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked Him and He would have given you living water."
The woman said "Where can you get this living water?"
Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst.
Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life."
The woman said to Him, "Sir, give me this water so that I won't get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water."
He told her, "Go, call your husband and come back."
"I have no husband," she replied.
Jesus said to her, "You are right when you say you have no husband. The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have said is quite true." The woman said "I can see that you are a prophet. Our
fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and His worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth."
The woman said, "I know that Messiah" {called Christ} "is coming. When He comes, He will explain everything to us."
Then Jesus declared, "I who speaks to you am He."
Joh 3:16 "This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, His one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in Him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life.
Joh 3:17 God didn't go to all the trouble of sending His Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again.
Joh 3:18 Anyone who trusts in Him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust Him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because of that person's failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to Him.
Joh 3:19 "This is the crisis we're in: God-light streamed into the world, but men and women everywhere ran for the darkness. They went for the darkness because they were not really interested in pleasing God.
Joh 3:20 Everyone who makes a practice of doing evil, addicted to denial and illusion, hates God-light and won't come near it, fearing a painful exposure.
Joh 3:21 But anyone working and living in truth and reality welcomes God-light so the work can be seen for the God-work it is."
